With the announcement of Yahoo Photos I thought I would do a blog about places on the web you can share your photos for free. If you already have a Yahoo account then just log into Yahoo Photos. Then, upload photos to photo albums, decide who gets to see those pictures — keep them private, share with a few or with the world.
Most photo sharing programs work the same. The most popular to date is Flickr. Again, if you have a Yahoo account Flickr allows you to use it for login or just create a new account. Flickr is about as user friendly as it gets and you can upload photos from your computer or send them from your cellphone. Not only that it allows you to organize your photos the way you want them AND allows others to organize them to their liking. Flickr gets a big thumbs up from me and for the most part everyone else I see write about photo sharing applications.
For a while I have used an application called Photobucket to host photos that I was using on eBay so that I didn’t have to pay eBay the extra money for displaying photos in my auctions. What is nice about Photobucket is that it gives you the code needed to insert a picture on a webpage or blog in three ways - either the url, tag or img code. With the free version you get 1gb of disk space — about 10,000 photos with a maximum image size of 1mb. You can even put up 3 minute video clips for free. It’s not a bad application for those who are looking for photo hosting. It’s not a photo sharing application.
There are many other photo sharing applications on the web with new ones sprouting up everyday, each with a different gimmick to make it different from
Flickr. Some to check out are FotoFlix, Bubbleshare, Funtigo, Panoramio, Scrapblog & Zoto.
If you’re looking for a father’s day gift why not create an online photo album for dad.
Scrapblog looks like a pretty interesting site for creating a nice scrapbook for dad.
